Mission Statement

Sycamore Media’s fundamental goal is to help small communities understand themselves through fair, objective journalism. We believe that honest information is powerful, and we believe it is a vital ingredient in good decision-making and effective self-government. We will strongly advocate for government transparency and accountability, fair play and an honest assessment of public issues. We also will endeavor to ensure that all individuals and reasonable ideas are given fair hearing. Beyond that, our work should help provide connective tissue for our communities, helping businesses succeed through marketing services and binding people together through their shared experiences, accomplishments and celebrations. 

About Us:
Sycamore Media was founded in 2014 by Trevis and Nancy Mayfield. Today the company publishes community news in print and online for five newspapers in Eastern Iowa, including the Bellevue Herald-Leader, The Observer (DeWitt and surrounding area), the Maquoketa Sentinel-Press, the Monticello Express, and the Van Buren County Register. 

It also publishes The Eastern Iowa Farmer magazine, which reaches agriculture professionals in 10 counties. The company also develops specialty products, including Chamber of Commerce community guides and tourism products.
